THE ARTIST INSIDE:
DARBY RAGES
Art has allowed me to generate a provocative dialogue around issues that are deeply important to me. To me the resulting conversation is the artwork, not the formal object.
My work spans a variety of social contexts, exploring issues such as gender, sexuality, trauma, spirituality, taboos and social norms. I draw from my life experience and practice a re-imagination of discourse.
I’ve known myself as an artist since childhood. I began my studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1999, continued at the University of Massachusetts Boston in 2007, and completed my BFA at Massachusetts College of Art & Design in 2012. I focused on the Studio for Interrelated Media. I found myself gravitate towards event planning, digital media, and conceptual art. I have worked as a freelance fine artist and graphic designer in the San Francisco Bay Area and am now working freelance in Portland, OR. I am also a sex educator and volunteer for a number of organizations in the community.
